About

Nico Piatkowski studied computer science and economics at the TU Dortmund University. Since April 2011 he is a research assistant and Ph. D. student at the Artificial Intelligence Unit. In September 2013, he received the Best-Student-Paper-Award of the ECML PKDD. I helped as a program committee member of ECML PKDD 2016, KDD 2016, ICPRAM 2016, MUSE 2015, KDD 2015, MUSE 2014, SENSEML 2014, and I'm reviewing for some journals, including DAMI, MLJ, TKDD and AIIM. Together with Yamuna Krishnamurthy, I was the proceedings chair of ECML PKDD 2013. And tohether with Hendrik Blom, I organized the LWA 2012 and the KDML 2012.

Research

My research is focused on Probabilistic Graphical Models for Resource-constrained systems. This, however, includes undirected models, random fields, Markov networks, Bayesian networks, Bayesian inference, variational inference, computational learning theory, discriminative and generative models, information theory, optimization, regularization, matrix and tensor analysis, and high-performance, distributed, parallel and scalable methods.
